Why Fried Foods are Bad for your Health

Why Fried Foods are Bad for your Health

We have all been warned of the dangers that come with eating a lot of fried foods. There are so many different diseases linked to those who consume larger amounts of fried foods than those who do not. When you fry your foods you are increasing your caloric intake as well as the amount of fat that you are adding to your food. This is especially true for those foods which you bread before frying, or potatoes (i.e. French fries, chips, etc.). Fast food seems to be the biggest culprit these days, but there are still so many people who choose to fry their foods at home.

There are also those foods which are more of a novelty fried item than anything else. Things like fried Twinkies and Mars bars that you get at the fair are especially dangerous, adding much more sugar and fat than regular fried foods would have. The short lived good feelings you may get from these foods is not worth the damage that it could be doing to your body. But what kind of risks are you putting yourself at for consuming fried foods on a regular basis?

Increased risk for obesity

As with all junk foods, there is an increased risk for obesity, or moving to the morbidly obese category. This is because you are going to be in taking more calories per day than what your body is using, causing it to store in fat cells. Eating fried foods (and lots of them) is an easy way to put your health at risk because you are overweight.

Increased risk for diabetes

All of that excess oil gets converted into sugars in your stomach. Eventually your naturally occurring insulin is going to have a big problem trying to keep up with regulating the sugar levels, which will make it behave abnormally. This is what we call insulin resistance, and this leads to type 2 diabetes.

Increased risk for heart disease

With an increased amount of fat in your body because of your massive intake of calories, you are putting yourself at high risk for heart disease. You are causing your heart to become surrounded by unhealthy tissues, putting unneeded pressure on the valves. You are making your heart work over time, and your heart certainly will not take that kind of abuse forever.

Not all fried foods are bad for you. There are more recent studies that are telling us that some fried foods can have some benefits to our health. However, too much can cause some serious health problems. You are putting yourself at risk for obesity, diabetes, heart disease, as well as a slew of other ailments when you are constantly consuming fried foods.

It is good to have a diet that is full of variety, making sure that you are including your essential nutrients in each meal. Skipping that extra fried treat every week can make a huge difference in how well your body functions and your health overall. Making healthy choices doesn’t need to be hard or inconvenient, but they do need to be made.
